Lawrence is a founder of the Rare Breeds Survival Trust and Rare Breeds International. Educated at Barnard Castle School and Cambridge University, where he served as President of the Agricultural Society and completed a MA in agriculture and genetics. Lawrence established the international consultancy company Countrywide Livestock after a brief stint as a college lecturer. He is the owner of the premier herd of White Park cattle, Britain’s most ancient breed, and created a new breed – the British Milk sheep – which has been exported to countries such as Hungary, Greece and France. He has also been appointed to national and international bodies, such as the National Steering Committee convened by Defra for farm animal genetic resources and the European Pig Biodiversity Management Board. He wasExecutive Director of RBST for many  years and served as  chairman of the RBST for two terms and director of Rare breeds International. Lawrence is a leading international authority on the genetic conservation of domestic livestock and has presented papers at many major conferences and symposia and is an author on a wide range of livestock topics. Peter has been a breeder of pedigree livestock for over 25 years, specialising in Castlemilk Moorit Sheep (Primitive Northern Short Tailed group) and Traditional Hereford Cattle. He was a pioneering specialist producer of organic free range traditional poultry and pigs as long ago as 1980. National Field Officer Rare Breeds Survival Trust for 8 years. He is Founder member of the Traditional Hereford Breeders Club. Council Member for Rare Breeds Survival Trust.
