Avian Influenza:
The Netherlands Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority
destroyed all of farm's 42.700 turkeys Sunday 18 March 2012.
A transport ban on poultry, eggs and poultry droppings with a 3km radius around
the farm has been in force since Sat 17 March. There are some 25 poultry farms
in the region.
Bird flu is an extremely contagious disease that can be transmitted not just
to poultry but to other bird species as well. In extremely rare cases humans
too can be infected with the virus. Last year, there
were several bird flu outbreaks across the country, most of them in the provinces
of Gelderland, Zeeland and Flevoland.

FEVER - SERBIA
From 27 Jan 2012 to 10 Feb 2012, a total of 43 cases of Q fever
were notified in the village of Nocaj, Srem county, Autonomous Province of
Vojvodina, Republic of Serbia. Q fever was laboratory confirmed in 37 notified
cases. Although, the outbreak is considered over, the outbreak investigation
is still ongoing in order to identify aetiologic factors relevant for this
outbreak. more

for stakeholders on possible approaches to a new EU Animal Health Law Aims
of this questionnaire.
This questionnaire serves to collect input on the main problems identified
so far in relation to current EU animal health policy and to check, add to
and, if necessary, redirect possible approaches to solving them. The document
reflect the preparations made by Unit D1 in the Animal Health and Welfare
Directorate 2 of the Directorate-General for Health and Consumers with a view
to drafting a new Animal Health Law and impact assessment. This initiative
was included in the Action Plan3 for the EU Animal Health Strategy 200720134.
